Nevada High School football standouts Ryan Renwick and Billy Smith were presented with a $260 donation from the Nevada Lions Club on Tuesday. The donation supplements expenses for the two NHS All-Southwest Conference first-team choices who will participate in the Lions East-West All-Star Game at Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Mo., on Saturday, July 26. Renwick, a defensive tackle, and Smith, an inside linebacker, will check in on Friday for a week-long practice preceding the contest. They will represent the West squad, coached by Seneca's Chance Wistrom. Renwick, heading to Coffeyville Community College in Coffeyville, Kan., on a football scholarship in the fall, said, "It's a lifetime opportunity and I'd like to thank the Lions Club for letting Billy and me have an opportunity to play in the game." Smith, who will attend St. Charles Community College in St. Peters, Mo., which has no football program, said, "When I was asked to play, of course, I said 'yes,' because who wouldn't want to play with the best in the state of Missouri?" Wayne Reinert, Lions Club representative, said, "We're just happy to support Ryan and Billy in the game at Warrensburg on July 26 and we hope they have good luck and their team wins." Also, on the program at the Lions Club weekly meeting were Nevada High School basketball players Sarah Branham and Drew Clark. Branham and Clark recounted their experiences as participants in the Lions Club All-Star Twin Classic basketball game at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Mo., on June 7. Both expressed their delight in being part of a game featuring Southwest Missouri's best prep players. Branham will attend Missouri Southern State University and Clark, Fort Scott Community College, where he will continue his basketball career with the Greyhounds.
