NHS JV spikers fourth in tourney

The Nevada Tiger junior varsity volleyball team, minus three starters, placed fourth in the Nevada JV Tournament on Saturday. "I thought the girls competed and played well today," said JV coach Allison Gorman. "We were in every match we played." The Tigers emerged from pool play with a split against Adrian, 21-25, 25-18; a loss to El Dorado Springs, 16-25, 22-25; and a win over Sheldon 25-20, 25-11. Point leaders were C.J. Moore with six in the Adrian match, Mandi Gash with eight in the El Dorado match and Jennifer Neal and Moore with 12 and 11, respectively, in the Sheldon contest. Neal aced five points, Moore four. In bracket play, the Tigers defeated Appleton City in three games, 23-25, 25-16 and 15-8. Gash led the scoring with 11 points, while Elizabeth Bain had seven. Second-round play saw the Tigers fall to El Dorado again, 16-25, 22-25. Gash and Moore scored six and five points, respectively. The Tigers (2-3-1 in the tournament) split the first two games of the third-place match with Adrian, 17-25 and 25-20, then lost the rubber game 5-15. Moore again led in points with eight, including two aces.
