NEOSHO, Mo. -- The Nevada Tiger girls tennis team saw its 10-year reign as Southwest Conference champions come to an abrupt end with a 6-3 loss to Neosho on Monday. A gut-wrenching 8-9 defeat on a tiebreaker by Nevada's No. 6 player Emily Teepe left the match deadlocked at 3-3 after the singles competition. Faced with the dilemna of suffering another one-match loss (the Tigers lost 5-4 to Neosho two weeks ago) or gambling, Tiger coach Dennis Pendrak chose the latter. "Since we lost to them so close up here," said Pendrak, "we tried splitting Lisa (Pendrak) and Gina (Pendrak) to gain an edge." The gamble failed. With the Pendraks, the regular No. 1 doubles team, paired with other partners, Nevada, needing two wins to gain a share of the title with Neosho, dropped all three doubles matches. The Tigers, who fell to 6-3 overall, 4-2 in conference play, host Fort Scott today at 4:30 p.m. Results Singles 1. Gina Pendrak (NEV) def. Kristin McFarland, 8-0. 2. Lisa Pendrak (NEV) def.
