100 Years Ago -- October 1, 1903

ITEMS -- J.T. Welborn, a substantial and well-known farmer citizen of Moundville Township was in Nevada today to deliver for shipment, 16 head of Angora goats, which he sold to Geo. Wilson. The stock will be shipped to Highland County, Virginia. One of these animals, considered a very fine one, sold for $25. A good laugh is a rest to the mind and body. If you have troubles, bring them to Mickey Finn at the Opera House tomorrow night and he will deliver you all the funny make ups, ridiculous situations, comical songs and dances the Mickey Finn comedy tomorrow night has them all laid in the shade. 75 Years Ago -- October 1, 1928

The Fifth Sunday Co-Operative meeting of Vernon County Disciples, held at Richards, was a success in every way. The attendance was large. Delegations from Rinehart, Metz, Caron Center, Berea, Walker, Sheldon, Bronaugh, Moundville, Eve, Deerfield and Nevada were present. The basket dinner was held was bountiful. Mrs. J. Sam Brown and Rev. Crain and Johnson made addresses. The spirit of cooperation was manifest at all times.

50 Years Ago -- October 1, 1953

The combined bands of Nevada Public Schools, which include the elementary, junior and senior high groups, presented a marching program at Logan Field Tuesday evening before an estimated crowd of 1,500 persons. The two older groups then left the field while the elementary band, under the direction of Miss Virginia Daughtery, presented its show that featured a waltz step. The Junior High Band presented a number in Congo step. The Senior Band was the last to appear. It came on the field from the northeast corner and performed the "icebox" maneuver and three counter marches. DURHAM -- John and Monte Burch worked Tuesday making a dirt fill at the bridge recently put in east of the John Burch farm. Floyd Dorkener and the Rev. Cecil Todd called on the Frank Hoover home Sunday. John Clemenson repaired a pump for Mrs. Pearl Holliday recently. Rex Kimrey has been helping Joe Dicks fill a silo. Jack Kendrick received a badly lacerated hand when his tractor kicked while he was attempting to start it recently. John Burch helped Vaughn Parrack cut beans this week.
