100 Years Ago -- September 28, 1903

CLUB ACTIVITY -- A whole trainload of good fellows, members of the Benevolent Order of Protective Elks, from Parsons and Fort Scott, Kan., landed here at 11:30 yesterday morning and the green pastures were discovered and held by right of discovery by the Nevada Elks was ranged over until 10 o'clock Sunday evening. The Nevada Elks were not allowed to eat any hay but spent the time keeping the "hay racks" loaded for the visitors. The Fort Scott and Parson herds were in war paint and a fierce battle was waged upon the Nevada Ball diamond, which had been selected as a neutral ground. The Elks were entertained at the handsome lodge rooms by the Nevada Elks and at 10 o'clock they were driven into the cars by the best wishes of Nevada friends.

PUBLIC NOTICE -- Public Auction of Rural School Property. The Nevada R-5 School District will sell at public auction the following rural schoolhouses and all other saleable improvements on the school site: Green Springs, Glenwood, Star, Highway, Sandstone Woods, Bethel, Oak Dale, Union East Washington, Prairie Valley. Purchasers will need to move the building from the sites within a reasonable time. MOUNDVILLE MINUTES- A good deed very day, the Boy Scout slogan, was put into practice Wednesday afternoon when about twelve scouts cleaned up the schoolyard under the supervision of the Scoutmaster, Marion Shrimplin. Those who helped were: Jerry Janes, Jack Smith, Ronnie Hinds, Claude Hicks, Bill McFarland, Larry Gulliford, Danny Thomas, Bill Martin, Darrel and Howard McCormick. Lyman Bott, who has been working on an international truck line between Detroit, Michigan and Ottawa, Canada, is visiting friends here.
