Lucille Nelander

Lucille Nelander, 90, St. Joseph, Mo., formerly of Walker, Mo., died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003, at Saxton-Riverside Care Center in St. Joseph. She was born Oct. 3, 1913, in Dederick, Mo., to Charles Hargrove and Bertha Hawkins Hargrove. She married Jerry Nelander on April 17, 1938, in Vernon County, Mo. He preceded her in death on Sept. 17, 1985.

Mrs. Nelander grew up in Dederick and was a graduate of El Dorado Springs High School. She later graduated from Warrensburg State Teachers College. Lucille farmed with her husband for many years and has spent the past eight years in St. Joseph to be near her son. She was a longtime member of the Sulphur Springs Baptist Church, Dederick, Mo.

Survivors include one son, Ed Nelander, St. Joseph, Mo.; two daughters, Shirley Forkner, Liberty, Mo., and Sue Nelson, Naples, Fla.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three brothers, Charles Hargrove, and Richard Hargrove, both of Nevada, Mo., and Allen Hargrove, El Dorado Springs, Mo.; two sisters, Ann Cox and Ruby Sherman, both of Nevada, Mo., and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Lola Haycox, Ethel Wynes and Harriet Neill; and one brother, Bud Hargrove.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, Mo., with John Nichols officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dederick, Mo. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at the funeral home.
