Nevada Little League announces major changes for 2004 season

Thursday, January 22, 2004

Previously, The Nevada Little League has been affiliated with Little League International which restricted teams from playing other teams not sanctioned by Little League International, as well as, prohibiting us from allowing players into our league which lived outside certain boundaries.

Beginning January 2004, the group will become an independent recreational baseball program known as Nevada Youth Recreational Baseball.

The group will offer baseball learning fundamentals and recreational baseball to youth ages 9-17.

A press release stated: "One of our goals in this venture is to begin playing ball with neighboring communities to add diversity to our league. We are currently contacting outlying areas to determine which ones, if any, are interested in participating with us.

Another priority is keeping the cost of baseball affordable so that everyone has an opportunity to participate.

The breakdown of our divisions will be: 9-10, 11-12, 13-14 and 15-17 (providing we have adequate numbers in each age group). We are particularly interested in increasing our numbers in the upper group, 15-and-up, as this seems to be the age with the lowest participation. Also, a major change will be separating the 13-14-year-olds from the 15-and-up group.

We are in the process of forming necessary committees to better our organization. Committee chairs have already been put into place for rules, fundraising, tournaments and concession stand. We encourage and welcome your participation so if there is an area you'd like to focus on, please let us know.

For further information, questions or suggestions, contact Executive Board members: Kenny Wilson, President (667-6742), David Ferry, Vice President (667-4834), Joyce Ryan, Treasurer (667-9276), or Pookie DeCocq, Secretary (549-6078)."
