The County Court today took up the petitions filed with the Court asking that a special election be called for the purpose of voting upon a proposition to build a new $75,000 Court house. About 250 taxpayers signed the petition. The law says that a petition signed by only 100 taxpayers is required and that the court must call the election as the proper petition is presented, consequently the County Court called the special election.

The Court also intends to see that the election tickets are so worded that the voters can easily understand how to vote. The proposition provided that the $75,000 be raised by a direct tax levy of 25 cents on the $100 for three years.

Nevada's acquiring of the hat factory has put our city in the national spotlight. Nevada may soon become a focal point in one of the most hotly contested issues between labor and management, the issue being, "Can a labor union veto the decision of a business to move part of its production facilities from one locality to another?" The issue came about throughout the Hat Corporation of America's decision to open a finishing plant somewhere west of the Mississippi. The location of that finishing plant is known to be Nevada. What all this means to Nevada is hard to determine at this time but it is definitely known that much national publicity will be focused toward Nevada in the immediate future. As a matter of fact, a certain amount of national publicity has already been given Nevada and at the present time there is a Kansas City Star reporter in town running a series on for the Bridgeport, Conn Herald, a daily newspaper with 92,000 circulation.

AROUND TOWN -- Is a motel a hotel or tourist camp? That is the question in which the City Council wrestled with for almost an hour at last night's City Council meeting.
