100 Years Ago - March 4, 1904

AROUND TOWN -- There are many imitators of Mr. J.C. Lewis' novel and unique method of heralding the advent of the St. Plunkard Company, in each city he appears he presents the only and original country band parade which is well worth going miles to see.

This novel street parade will be seen here Tuesday evening and is funnier than a circus. No doubt you have seen imitations of this parade but see the original now.

Dr. L.E. Day suffered a severe attack of neuralgia this morning while at the Baldwin Drug Store. The doctor suffered excruciating pain and had to be conveyed to his home in a carriage. Dr. Yater and Dr. Buchanan were called and report that the Doctor is resting easy this afternoon. His many Nevada friends hope he will rapidly recover.

75 Years Ago - March 4, 1929

ODD and INTERESTING -- The first occupants of the White House got along at night with candles. Gas was installed in the White House in 1848 and a system of heating and ventilation in 1853. President Jefferson died so poor that if Congress had not purchased his library for $20,000, he would have been a pauper.

50 Years Ago - March 4, 1954

CLUB NEWS -- The Nevada Lions Club will "hit the streets" Friday and Saturday in a door-to-door campaign to sell hundreds of brooms and door mats for the benefit of the Missouri blind and the community's visually handicapped. There is just one thing to keep straight about this project; the members aren't "peddling" brooms, doormats, ironing board covers or other blind made projects. Aiding the visual handicapped is one of the principal functions of this project. If is fast becoming a big local and international project for many local clubs.

FARM NEWS -- 1953 Farm Income Below City Cousins ... From Washington. The Agriculture Department reported today that the income of the farm population last year averaged $882 for each person compared with an average of $1,898 for the non-farm population. The record average for the farm population, $986 was said to have been reached in 1951. The reduction in the farm population income last year was about 8.8 per cent on an overall basis but only about 3 per cent on an individual basis. The number of persons living on farms last year was smaller than the year before.
