His pocket book saves his life…

Edward E. Bartholemew who lives alone at his residence 714 North Clay Street, invited his friend G.W. Strader to spend the evening with him last night.

During the evening, he stepped out of his front door for a few minutes when a man who was lurking at the corner of the house fired at him from a distance of about ten feet. The bullet passed through his clothes and into a pocket book that he carried in his vest pocket. The pocket book contained a steel scraper that Bartholomew uses in his business as a paperhanger. Strader rushed to his friend as soon as he heard the shot and found him lying on the ground where the bullet had knocked him down. He telephoned Dr. Yater, who on examination found Bartholomew was uninjured save from a slight shock.
