100 Years Ago -- March 19, 1904

ITEMS -- Dr. Samuel Magee went to Kansas City this morning to attend the regular monthly meeting of the supreme test of the Ancient Order of the Magi. This is a physic research society of which Magee is the supreme master of Missouri.

The play, "A Fatal Likeness," a high-class comedy drama, will make you laugh. The Morey Stock Company at Moore's Theatre presents it tonight. Bring your members with you and participate in the free drawing of the four handsome rocking chairs.

Romeo Lucas, son of C.R. Lucas, the grocer, has gone to St. Joseph to accept a position as city salesman for the Nelson Morris Packing Company. This position was held by Albert Lucas also a son of our merchant who was promoted to a better position with the same firm.

75 Years Ago -- March 19, 1929

The Tri-Motor Company is a new automobile establishment, which has located in Nevada and has leased the Meyer's building at the corner of Walnut and Washington Streets. The company will handle the Graham-Paige line of automobiles.

50 Years Ago -- March 19, 1954

Loren C. Haines of North Washington Street was presented with an honorary life membership in the Elks Lodge No. 564 this week by Exalted Ruler Bob Bell. Haines is still active in Elk's work after more than 34 years as a member and served the lodge as Exalted Ruler for three terms.

In order to become eligible for an honorary life membership, an Elk must be a member for more than 30 successive years and be at least years of age. Then a two-thirds majority must vote him the honor in his local lodge.

The honorary life members of Nevada's Elk's Lodge are J.W. Miller, H.E. Ozee, J.A. Wiseman and William George all of Nevada; Jay Rinehart of Mountain View and Claude Mansfield of Dennison, Texas.

MOUNDVILLE NEWS -- Mr. and Mrs. John Colson Jr. and children of Joplin visited his great aunt Mrs. Minnie Butler Saturday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. O.C. Hensley moved to the Parks Farm recently from Milo. Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Sarver and children, who have been living there moved to Kansas City. Mr. and Mrs. Ira Shaw went to Wichita, Kansas, Sunday to assist their daughter, LaVern move to Halstead, Kan. where she will further her nurse's training.
