Knights win VCC championship

The Northeast Vernon County Knights beat the Bronaugh Wildcats twice Monday afternoon to clinch the Vernon County Conference championship.

The Knights rolled to a 4-0 conference record and 11-1 overall by winning 16-6 and 15-0 in games shortened by the 10-run rule.

In the first game NEVC had a total of 16 hits with four errors.

Senior Dustin Terry went four for five, with two doubles. A single to left center by Nick Chadd drove in the Knights winning run. Jarred Taylor pitched seven strikeouts in the six-inning game.

In the second game NEVC had 14 hits with two errors. Dustin Terry and Jarred Taylor both hit three for four with Taylor having five RBI's.

Senior Hank Layton pitched a one hit shutout with five strikeouts in the five-inning game.

The NEVC Knights play Montrose at 4:30 on Thursday in Walker and start District 13 play in Archie against Hume at 6:30 p.m. May 17.
