Gilbert Coy Pawley

Gilbert Coy Pawley, 88, passed away Tuesday, May 18, 2004, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg, Mo., following an illness of several weeks. He was born June 2, 1915, in Moundville, to Jesse Pawley and Cora Grooms Pawley. He was married June 21, 1965, in Camdenton, to Faye Butler Pawley. She preceded him in death in 1988.

Mr. Pawley was born and raised in Vernon County and spent virtually his entire life here. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European theater of war. Following the war he spent most of his working years at the Nevada State Hospital, retiring in 1981. He was an avid bowler.

Survivors include one brother, Ronald Pawley, Arma, Kan.; one niece, Shirley Brown, Lone Jack, Mo.; a host of relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by one sister, Irene Ellifrits.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, May 21, at Ferry Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Moore Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Missouri Honors Program.

Friends may call from now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday between 1 and 2 p.m.
