Support group forming

A support group for those with Sarcoidosis is now forming in the area. Those with an interest in such a group should contact Lisa Monks, Stockton, at (417) 276-6656.

Tiger Football Camp begins July 26

A football camp for children in grades three through eight will be conducted at the Nevada Little League football field, July 26-30, from 6 to 7 p.m. for grades three through six and from 7 to 8 p.m. for grades seven and eight.

Pre-registration is throughout the summer and can be accomplished at the Nevada High School weight room with available high school football coaching staff members, during weight training sessions, which are from 7 to 9 a.m., and 1 to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. The fee is $25.

Absentee ballots now

available for Aug. 3 election

Absentee ballots for the Aug. 3 primary election are available at the County Clerk's office in the Vernon County Courthouse.

Registered voters may request an application for an absentee mail out ballot by calling the Clerk's office at (417) 448-2500. The last day to request an absentee ballot by mail is July 28.

The clerk's office will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, July 31, for absentee balloting.

The last day to vote absentee is Monday, Aug. 2, at 5 p.m.

Special praise service planned at Walker

Virgil City reunion July 24

Virgil City is conducting a community reunion on Saturday, July 24, at the site of the old Virgil store, with a carry-in dinner at 1 p.m. Those attending should bring lawn chairs, old pictures and other Virgil City memorabilia.

Special program at Prairie State Park on July 23

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources will present a program, "Lights, Sound, Action -- Nighttime on the Prairie," at 8 p.m., July 23, to give patrons the opportunity to experience the prairie at night.

The event will follow a 7 p.m. open house, during which the Missouri DNR will conduct an informational meeting to discuss issues related to Prairie State Park.

VFW dance July 24

Ralph V. Bobbet VFW Post and Ladies Auxiliary No. 2175 will host a dance and karaoke with party time on Saturday, July 24, at 8 p.m. Cost is $2 per person. Snacks and finger foods will be served.

Young Continentals to apear at First Christian Church

The Young Continentals will present a concert at the First Christian Church, located at the corner of Austin and Washington streets, at 7 p.m., July 27. The Young Continentals is a 30-member music ministry group of young people between the ages of 12 and 14, and will present a program titled, "Airborne! -- Reaching for a Higher Purpose."

Metz United Methodist Church to host VBS

The Metz United Methodist Church will conduct vacation Bible school, from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, July 29, and Friday, July 30; and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, July 32, with lunch provided on Saturday.
