Kaylee Anne Smith

Jody and Keri Smith, Carthage, are proud to announce the birth of their child, Kaylee Anne Smith. Kaylee was born at 5:29 p.m., on July 7, 2004, at Freeman hospital in Joplin. She weighed 8 pounds, 3 ounces, and measured 20 inches. Paternal grandparents are Sony and Lois Smith, El Dorado Springs. Maternal grandparents are Jerry and Diane Gilmore, Nevada. Paternal great-grandparents are Carl and Margaret Smith, El Dorado Springs. Maternal great-grandparents are Harold and Marge Gilmore, Nevada, and Bob and Ila Conner, Nevada.

Avian James Monroe

James Monroe and Spring Lechman, Nevada, are proud to announce the birth of their son, Avian James Monroe. Avian was born at 11:12 a.m., on July 21, 2004, at Nevada Regional Medical Center. He weighed 8 pounds, 9 ounces, and measured 20 inches. He joins a brother, Tyson Guzman. Paternal grandparents are Darrell and Debbie Hillier, Nevada, and James and Gale Monroe. Maternal grandparents are Gene and Debbie Gilbert, Nevada, and Van and Liz Lechman, Nevada. Paternal great-grandparents are Jim and Lavern Monroe. Maternal great-grandparents are Don and Donna Fisher, Kearney, Mo., Tom and the late Dorothy O'Neal and the late Jack Lechman.

Deaths

Juanita Jenelle McCoy

Juanita Jenelle McCoy, 81, of Joplin, died Sunday, July 25, 2004, at 4:30 p.m. at Spring River Christian Nursing Center of Joplin. She was born March 15, 1923, in Joplin, the daughter of the late John B. and Nelly B. Goodrich Pannell. She married Jack H. McCoy on Sept. 22, 1944, in Columbus, Kan., and he preceded her in death on May 11, 1991.

She worked for Eagle-Picher for more than 20 years before retiring. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was also a member of the Elks Lodge and the White Shrine.

She was preceded in death by a brother, John B. Pannell Jr. Survivors include a son, Robert H. "Bob" McCoy of Nevada; a brother, Harold Pannell of Iola, Kan.; a sister, Martha Lorene Johnson of Carthage; and two grandchildren.

Funeral Services were held Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at 2 p.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel with Derick Tillman officiating. With interment following in Osborne Memorial Cemetery.

Mattie E. Ross

Mattie E. Ross, 101, Nevada, died Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at Moore-Few Care Center. She was born on Jan. 17, 1903, in Linneus, Mo., to Gilbert M. and Rosa Lee (Butler) O'Neal. She married Charles Andrew Ross in 1923 in Carthage, and he preceded her in death.

She was a graduate of Chula High School, Chula, Mo., in 1921. She was a homemaker and a member of First Presbyterian Church of Nevada. She was a 4-H leader and Campfire Girls leader in Moundville. She lived all her life in Vernon County.

She is survived by a niece, Evelyn Blaylock, Colorado Springs, Colo.; and several great nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on July 31, 2004, at 11 a.m., at Evergreen Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Greg Ferree officiating. Interment will be in Newton Burial Park. Friends may call after 1 p.m., Friday, July 30, at the Evergreen Memorial Chapel. Memorials are suggested to Moore-Few Care Center or First Presbyterian Church.
