RIVER FALLS, Wis. -- Rain forced the Kansas City Chiefs to hold a curtailed indoor practice Monday morning for the second time in four days.

''We were told there was going to be a half an inch of rain within 20 minutes of the start of our practice and there would be lightning,'' said coach Dick Vermeil. ''We got some things done. Sometimes it's good to come in and freshen up a little bit at the same time.''

Trying to make the best of things, coaches sent players through alignment assignment and technique work.

''Today you practice and you assimilate everything that it takes to play a game,'' Vermeil said. ''There's a lot that can be learned from it.''

Missing practice were wide receivers Eddie Kennison and Marc Boerigter. Kennison is still nursing a hand injury and Boerigter sustained a shoulder injury on Sunday. Neither was expected to be out long.
