William Donald Edmonds

William Donald Edmonds, 81, Nevada, died Monday, Sept. 13, 2004, at Nevada Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born Sept. 5, 1923, in Nevada, to Richard Howard Edmonds and Nellie Mabel Phelps Edmonds. He married Debbie Zellmer on Oct. 6, 1980, in Miami, Okla., and she survives of the home.

Mr. Edmonds was born and raised in Vernon County and graduated from Rich Hill High School in 1942. He was a member of the Horton Methodist Church, Horton. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific. Following the war he returned to Butler and worked for a time at Richardson Motors. He later went to work for the city of Butler for 38 years serving as utilities superintendent and eventually as city administrator, retiring in 1986. He moved to Nevada at that time and has resided here since. He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs football and St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan.

Survivors in addition to his wife Debbie include two sons, Bill Edmonds, Nevada, and Kelly Edmonds, Washington D.C.; four grandchildren, Brian Edmonds, Lee's Summit, Mo., Paul Edmonds, Omaha, Neb., Jeff Edmonds, San Francisco, Calif., and John Edmonds, Maryville, Mo.; two brothers, Jim Edmonds, Horton, and Joe Ralph Edmonds, Nevada. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Roy, Kenneth and Edwin Edmonds; and two sisters, Mabel Beshore and Clestele Balk.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 17, 2004, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with John Nichols officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Balltown Cemetery, Horton. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family receives friends 7-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
