The Nevada Lady Tigers golf team placed first in a tournament at Republic on Monday.

The Lady Tigers shot a combined 436, to win by four shots over Willard in the 18-hole tournament.

Emily Benbrook shot 105 to lead the team, while Rachel Prewitt was one shot back at 106.

Tabitha Pitts shot 109, and Aubrey Jones shot 116 for Nevada.

Eleanor Horst was the other varsity golfer to compete, carding 123.

"I had no idea they had a chance to place," coach Kelly Gray said. "We showed what we could do as a team with four good scores."

The Lady Tigers faced district foe Marshfield in the tournament, beating them by 18 strokes.

Gray said that gives the Nevada players confidence that they can make a run at a district championship this season.

"Now the girls know that districts are a real possibility to qualify for state," she said.

Prewitt's birdie on the signature hole was one of the highlights of the day for the Lady Tigers.

Benbrook played her most consistent match of the season, showing signs of shaking her early season slump.

Benbrook finished ninth overall individually, while Prewitt finished 10th.

The Lady Tigers are back on the course today when they host Carl Junction in a dual tournament.
