Playing their best collective round of the season, the Nevada Lady Tigers golf team defeated Pleasant Hill by 33 shots Thursday.

Nevada had a four-person total of 199 for the nine-hole dual, getting season-best rounds from both Emily Benbrook and Tabitha Pitts.

Benbrook won medalist honors with a 45, while Pitts was only two shots behind her winning teammate for second overall.

Aubrey Jones carded a 52 and Rachel Prewitt shot 55 for Nevada, as they both had lower scores than all but one of the Pleasant Hill players.

Only Bailey Hill of Pleasant Hill was able to keep Nevada from sweeping the top four spots by shooting 50 for third place individually.

The competition was played at the Quarry course at Country Creek in Pleasant Hill.

Eleanor Horst was the other varsity golfer for Nevada, she shot 61,

The junior varsity also had a solid round, as Elisha Ellis had a personal best 57. Kara Foster shot 59 to give the JV two players under 60.

Vickie Reardon also made the trip and shot 71.

Coach Kelly Gray said the course was in good shape and that the golfers seem to play better when the course is good.

"After playing two 18-hole rounds they think nine-holes is nothing," Gray said in an e-mail.

She also said the top four players are really pushing each other for the top spot. The top four averages are only .2 apart.

It was the second consecutive win in dual play for Nevada, they also had beaten Carl Junction Tuesday, by four shots.

Benbrook said that some extra work on her tee shots has helped her bring her scores down lately.

"The whole time, I was thinking about what my dad had told me to fix my tee shots," Benbrook said. "Today it finally paid off."

Nevada is in action again when they travel to Carl Junction to face them again in a rematch. The golfers will play nine holes at Briarbrook Country Club.
