Man injured in Saturday collision with utility pole

At about 8:35 a.m., Saturday, Donald R. Peterson, 48, was driving northbound on Washington Street in Nevada when he lost control of his pickup truck. The vehicle smashed through a utility pole, damaged a stop sign and came to rest against a tree in the yard of 1000 N. Washington, about 88 feet from the pole originally struck. Peterson was transported to Nevada Regional Medical Center via ambulance with probable but not apparent injuries. Nevada Police Officer Steve Bastow, the cause of the wreck was still undetermined Saturday morning, but a medical or medication issue may have contributed. The utility pole carried a number of lines including cable, telephone and a primary and secondary electrical line.
