Darold Orr "Bud" Sackett

Darold Orr "Bud" Sackett, 82, former resident of Garland, Kan., and more recently of Ahoski, N.C., died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, at the Three Rivers Nursing Home in Widsnor, N.C. He was born April 12, 1922, in Fort Scott, Kan., the son of Paul Sackett and Lillian Payton Sackett. He married Susan Irene Davis and she survives in North Carolina.

He was retired as a welder and maintenance on large machinery. He was a veteran of World War II having served with the United States Marines. He fought in seven major battles in the South Pacific during the war. He holds a patent on machines that clean large chicken houses. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include his wife of North Carolina; one son, Darold 0. Sackett Jr.; two daughters, Lillian E. Fisher, Fort Scott, Kan., and Anna Marie (Lynda) Fulton; two brothers, William Sackett and Robert Sackett both of Illinois; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Cliffard Sackett; and a sister, Georgie Cook.

The Rev. Jared Witt will conduct graveside services at 1:30 p.m., Friday in the U.S. National Cemetery. The Olson Frary Burkhart Post No. 1165 V.F.W. will conduct military honors. Family and friends may meet at the Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel prior to leaving for the cemetery at 1:15 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Post No. 1165 Veterans of Foreign Wars and may be sent to Cheney Witt Chapel, P.O.
