Jairus Byrd threw for three touchdowns and ran for one more as Clayton won the first overtime game in Show-Me Bowl history by defeating Webb City 27-26 in the Class 4 state championship Friday.

Clayton (13-1) took the lead on its first possession of overtime when Byrd hit Torrey Tate on a 19-yard scoring pass. Kit Szybala's point-after made it 27-20.

Webb City running back Andrew Stanley runs past a Nevada defender for a touchdown earlier this season. The top-ranked Cardinals could not get past Clayton in the Class 4 state championship game in St. Louis Friday. Another Nevada opponent, Class 3 District 12 winner Harrisonville, also lost in a state title game.

Webb City (12-1) answered on Brayden Drake's 11-yard run on a fourth and sixth play. Cardinals coach John Roderique elected to go for two points after the score, and Andrew Stanley was stopped short before fumbling the ball away.

Byrd, son of former NFL defensive back Gil Byrd, tied the game with a 2-yard run with six minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Byrd then thwarted Webb City's final two drives in regulation by forcing a fumble and intercepting a Drake pass with less than a minute remaining.

Clayton had to forfeit nine victories last year when Byrd was declared ineligible because he had moved to the Clayton district in the offseason. On Friday, he showed his strong contributions to the team.

The Cardinals' Stanley scored three touchdowns, including two in a span of 14 seconds in the second quarter -- one of them from an interception -- and ran for 217 yards. He is the 16th player in Show-Me Bowl history to go over 200 yards rushing.

Webb City won the Southwest Conference title, including a 70-6 win over Nevada on Sept. 24.

Mary Institute-Country Day rallied from a 25-point deficit to beat Harrisonville 45-42 in double overtime Saturday in the Class 3 high school championship football game.

Robby Mandel kicked a 38-yard field goal to give the Rams their seventh state title. They last won the crown in 1996.

Harrisonville (12-2), the defending state champ, built a 35-10 lead with five touchdowns in the first half at the Edward Jones Dome.

But MICDS (14-0) finally tied the game on a 51-yard touchdown pass from wide receiver Matt Levis to flanker Jono Hiemenz with 6 minutes left in regulation.

The teams traded touchdowns in the first overtime period. MICDS took the first possession in the second extra period and Mandel converted on his third field goal of the game, a new Show-Me Bowl record.

Harrisonville moved to the 6-yard line on its possession. Then a pass by quarterback Tyson Travis was batted down by Hiemenz on fourth-and-4 to end the game.

Mandel had the longest field goal in Show-Me Bowl history with a 47-yarder in the fourth quarter.

Levis, who caught nine passes, set the Show-Me Bowl mark for most reception yards in a game with 176.

MICDS quarterback Andrew Grumney threw for 219 yards and three touchdowns. Harrisonville's Travis ran for three scores and threw for two others.

Harrisonville visited Nevada on Oct. 22. The Wildcats beat the Tigers 49-0.
