75 years ago:

Two more youths make confessions in cashier abduction

WARRENSBURG -- Two Holden youths, arrested last evening here, confessed orally to Sheriff Reub Black that they robbed the Bank of Blue Springs and abducted the assistant cashier early yesterday.

The youths are Luther Stence, 16 years, and Cecil Wood, 20 years, both of Holden.

The young robbers took Sheriff Black to the place where they had hidden the money taken from the bank. Approximately $900 was recovered.

The assistant cashier was released by the bandits, a few miles out of Blue Springs, unharmed.

50 years ago:

Christmas seal fund now at $1,283 total

Contributions to the Vernon County Tuberculosis Association Christmas Seal fund now total $1,283.25. The contributions are being received from residents of the county who have received the Christmas Seals which were mailed to them on Nov. 22.

"This $1,283.25 is a very good showing for the county, with the goal of $2,000 set more than 64 percent has been received already," W. Garland Keithly, chairman said today.
