The Vernon County United Way celebrated a great year of fund-raising Wednesday at the Nevada Country Club. So far the United Way has raised $114,683.71, exceeding their goal of $110,000. David Slaby, drive chairman, welcomed the guests to the luncheon and handed out awards to winners.

Nevada High School's Soundsational Singers performed during the lunch although Wes Morton explained that some choreography had to be changed. "Because of the low ceilings we had to make some changes," Morton said. "For example if you see a girl just standing there it's because she's really supposed to be up on someone's shoulders."

3M Company was honored for being the largest overall contributor as well as for highest per capita donation for a company with more than 100 employees.

U.S. Bank Home Mortgage had the highest per capita donation of a company between 25 and 99 employees and TeamBank, N.A. had the largest per capita donation for a company of 3 to 24 employees.

Three companies received recognition for having 100 percent participation by employees, Bank of America, TeamBank and U.S. Bank. The City of Nevada was recognized as being the most improved contributor.

Several individuals were also given awards during the lunch. Eric Landoll and Dave Slaby were recognized for their co-chairman duties during Oktoberfest. Gary Ashby, Oktoberfest Electrical Manager; Pat Chambers, Entertainment chair and Emcee for Oktoberfest; Carrie Mason, Oktoberfest Chili Cook-Off chair; Angie Nichols, Oktoberfest Decorations Chair and Carol Branham and Adam Dean for being the drive co-chairmen.

After lunch Slaby had everyone turn their chair over to see if they were one of eight winners of door prizes. Among the prize winners Judith Feuquay, Nevada Regional Medical Center CEO walked away with one of the coveted gifts.
