Major R. Johnson, 79, Rich Hill, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005. He was born Jan. 23, 1925, at Swan, Mo.

He drove a truck for seven years before he returned to farming in 1959, with his brothers. He spent two years in the military stationed in the Philippines where he was Technician Fifth Grade in the 211th Antiaircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion.

He was preceded in death by his parents, E.N. and Nellie Johnson; and one brother, Arch Johnson. Survivors include his brother Arthur "Sid" Johnson; one sister, Dixie Black; and a nephew, all of Rich Hill; and several cousins.

Services were held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Butler, on Jan. 23, at 2:30 p.m., with Bill Perkey officiating. Pallbearers were Michael Black, Major Black, Bob Black, Mark Ervin, Hubert Heckadon and Eddie Shouse. Honorary pallbearers were Mason Poulter, Kip Hough, Darrell Stevener, Philip Stevener, Roger Tippie and Darrell Hendrex. Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Butler. Arrangements were by Heuser Funeral Home.
