Norman Bernard George, Jr., 80, Moundville, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2005, at Nevada Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness. He was born July 4, 1924, in Kansas City, Mo., to Norman Bernard George Sr. and Mary Taylor George. He married Betty Jo Whitworth on April 22, 1946, in Paola, Kan., and she preceded him in death on Nov. 28, 1998.

He was born and raised in Kansas City, Mo. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East earning victory and campaign medals. He worked a number of years in maintenance at Disneyland and later for Douglas Aircraft. He came to Vernon County in 1975 and worked at the Vernon County Courthouse, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Eagles Lodge, the American Legion and the VFW.

Survivors include two sons, Alan George, Moundville, and Joey George, Deadwood, S.D.; one stepson, Denny McClelland, Nevada; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 27, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with Dr. William Cox officiating. Interment will follow in Moundville Cemetery, Moundville. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family receives friends 6-7 p.m. today, Jan. 26, at the funeral home.
