100 years ago:

New railroad for Nevada

A new railroad was incorporated yesterday in the office of the Secretary of State John F. Swanger, the Kansas City, Nevada & Springfield Railroad Company.

The company is capitalized at $720,000 and will build a road from Nevada to Springfield, Mo., through the counties of Vernon Cedar, Dade and Greene, a distance of 72 miles.

75 years ago:

Butler woman accidentally shot by grandson

Mrs. Emma Hall, aged 74 years, was shot and quite seriously injured shortly after 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon when a .22 caliber rifle, in the hands of her small grandson, was accidentally discharged, says the Butler Democrat.

The accident occurred at the home of Mrs. hall on the corner of Mill and Water streets.

50 years ago:

Gray to attend wheat growers meeting

Chester H. Gray of Nevada left today to attend the annual meeting of the National Association of Wheat Growers being held Feb. 2-4 in Amarillo, Texas. Mr. Gray is a member of the advisory committee to the board of directors of the association.

Much accent is being placed on wheat research by the Association and there are two permanent committees along this line; one has to do with projects of fundamental research and the other with marketing research.
