Hazel Welton, 94, Nevada, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, at Moore-Few Care Center, Nevada, following a brief illness. She was born Nov. 27, 1910, in Manchester, Texas, to Cortland R. Caswell and Maude Lotus Griggs Caswell. She married Eldon R. Welton on June 18, 1956, in Miami, Okla., and he preceded her in death.

She grew up in Manchester, Texas, and later DeQueen, Ark. She lived in the Pitcher and Commerce, Okla., areas for more than 20 years. She came to Vernon County in 1949 where she has lived ever since. She was a member of the Community of Christ Church, Nevada, where she was active as a Sunday school teacher and a women's leader. She was a member of the Durham Good Neighbors Club, a volunteer for the American Red Cross, an original founder of Community Outreach, and was a member and past president of the Nevada Elks Does. She worked for Veith's Café for several years, Nevada State Hospital for 15 years, and was a temporary worker at the Deerfield Post Office until retiring in 1978.

Survivors include one daughter, Donna McVey, Jacksonville, Ark.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eldon; one son, Frederick Johnson; one stepson, Donald Welton; three brothers; and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 4, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with James Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park, Nevada. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family receives friends 7-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
