Woman suffers from hypothermia after running out of fuel

SEDALIA, Mo. -- Mrs. Jane B. Evans, widow of a veteran soldier and a member of the Womens Relief Corps., was found in her humble home on East Second Street Monday night almost perishing from cold and in an insensible condition. Her fuel had run and she was too sensitive to appeal to her neighbors for aid. When her friends forced their way into her home she was kneeling by her bed in a semi-concious condition. Both her hands and feet were frozen, and it was feared at first that they would have to be amputated. She was removed to Maywood hospital, where she is receiving every attention.

Two Nevada lads admit to car theft

Two 14-year-old Nevada youths have admitted to the Nevada police that they stole an automobile belonging to Loran Wade of Walker about 6:30 p.m., Feb. 4, and abandoned it later in a ditch near the "brickyard hill" on South Main Street.

Wade had parked the car near the Nevada High School while he attended the Vernon County basketball tournament Friday night and found the car gone when he left the games.

During the questioning by police, the boys allegedly also admitted the theft of a woman's purse containing $80 from another automobile as well as the theft of a rifle from the Welty Brothers Sales Pavilion.
