The bus leaves this afternoon as the Nevada Tigers send five wrestlers to Columbia for the state championships this week.
All matches will take place at the Hearnes Center on the University of Missouri campus.
Each Tiger is matched up in a 16-man bracket, with the top wrestlers that Class 2 has to offer.
The wrestling begins Thursday and continues through Friday and Saturday.
Mason Heard will be representing Nevada in the 103-pound class. His first contest will be against Brandon Perkins, a sophomore from Smithville. Perkins is 30-4 this season, while Heard, a freshman, is 24-17.
Senior David Hawks is wrestling in the 135-pound class. He takes a 35-4 record into his second state berth. He also qualified for state as a sophomore. Hawks is paired with Michael Kitchen, a freshman from Moberly. Kitchen has a 23-20 record this season and is somebody Hawks has already beaten once this season.
Keith Overton is wrestling in the 152-pound class. Overton is a junior who at 16-16 will be taking on top-ranked Peter Miller of MICDS. Miller is a senior, two-time defending state champ and has a 27-1 record this season.
Spenser Daniels is the lone freshman who qualified for state in the 160-pound class. Daniels is 27-14 this season and has to wrestle Ricky Williams, a senior from Grain Valley. Williams is 35-5 this season.
Tyler Shouse is a senior who will be competing in the 215-pound class for Nevada. Shouse has a 34-2 record this season and will be taking on David Sheetz, a junior from Platte County. Sheetz is 22-13 this season. Shouse joins Hawks as the only two Nevada Tigers going to state for the second time. He also qualified as a sophomore.
First-round matches and first-round wrestlebacks are set for Thursday morning. The quarterfinals will be Friday morning and the semifinals Friday night. Saturday will feature final wrestlebacks and fifth-place matches, with third-place matches Friday afternoon. The championships are scheduled for Saturday evening.
