Mary L. Armitage

Mary L. Armitage, the daughter of Bertes and Alma Lash McClain, was born Feb. 3, 1914, in Golden Gate, Ill., and passed away Feb. 23, 2005, at Nevada Regional Medical Center at 91 years of age.

Mary enjoyed a religious upbringing, having parents who were both ordained Methodist ministers. She attended McKendree College in Lebanon, Ill. She was united in marriage to Everett Armitage on June 8, 1938, in Lawrenceville, Ill., and he preceded her in death in Jan. 1993. She and her husband moved to Nevada in 1946 and established Armitage Appliance and Hardware. Mrs. Armitage was an active member of the Nevada United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Soroptimist Club, Domestic Science Club, and the Garden Club.

Survivors include one son, Donald Armitage and his wife, Mary, of Louisville, N.C.; one daughter, Suzanne Drummond and her husband, Paul, of New Franklin, Mo.; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Armitage of Kansas City, Mo.; one brother, Clyde McClain and his wife, Rosemary, of the state of Texas; one sister, Martha Miller and her husband, John, of Rio Rancho, N.M.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one son, Richard Armitage; and one brother, James McClain.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26, at the Nevada United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ralph Clark officiating. Burial will follow in Newton Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Friday at Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
