Only one unpaved stretch remains on No. 71, Kansas City to Neosho
CARTHAGE, Mo. -- A ribbon of concrete now extends from Kansas City to Neosho, a distance of nearly 200 miles, on highway No. 71, with the exception of a 7-mile stretch south of Nevada and short sections where railroads cross.
The pavement between Carthage and Jasper is complete; construction work on three large viaducts just north of here is finished, and the project in this section will be opened to traffic by March 10.
Chamber of commerce officials here are making plans for a celebration to mark the formal opening of the viaducts and newly paved stretch to Jasper.

Council approves purchase of Davis Park
The City Council last night approved the purchase of Davis Park in east Nevada from Max Tripp for $2,250. The Council authorized City Manager Tom Herring to complete the transaction with Mr. Tripp for the specified amount.
The Council then adopted a motion to retain the name of the site as Davis Park in consideration of the cooperation extended to the city over the years by B.E. Davis, who first made the tract available to the city for park purposes.
The Council said it is planned to make numerous improvements at the site to add to the convenience and comfort of residents who wish to use it during the warm weather months.
