Gregory C. Branum, Missouri state director for Rural Development, announced that the agency is soliciting competitive applications under its Housing Preservation Grant program.

Rural Development offices will receive pre-applications until May 13.

Eligible entities for these competitively awarded grants include state and local governments or non-profit corporations.

Branum designated the seven area offices, located in St. Joseph, Kirksville, Clinton, Farmington, Springfield, Houston, and Dexter as the processing office for the HPG program.

Those entities wishing to apply for assistance should contact Ed Mason at the Rural Development Local Office at 625 W. Nursery Street, Box A, Butler, MO 64730 or call (660) 679-6114, ext. 4, to receive further information and copies of the application package.

Housing Preservation Grant funds are issued as grants to state and local governments or non-profit organizations to be used to repair or rehabilitate individual housing, rental properties, or co-ops owned and/or occupied by very-low and low-income rural persons.

Grantees will provide eligible homeowners, owners of rental properties, and owners of cooperatives with financial assistance through loans, grants interest reduction payments or other comparable financial assistance for necessary repairs and rehabilitation.

Last year, Missouri was able to provide assistance in an amount of $168,753 to three applicants through the grants, which provided assistance to approximately 44 households.

Recipients last year included East Missouri Action Agency receiving $74,376, West Central Missouri Community Action Agency receiving $57,377 and Green Hills Community Action Agency receiving $37,000.
