Daniel E. Short, 78, Nevada, died April 3, 2005, at Christian Health Care Center, Nevada, following a lengthy illness. He was born Oct. 1, 1926, in Dederick, to Oral Daniel Short and Naomi Grace Branstetter Short. He married Bonnie Lou Collins on June 10, 1947, in Fort Scott, Kan., and she survives of the home.

He attended Mobley Grade School in Vernon County, and El Dorado Springs High School. He worked as a surveyor for the government in Montana prior to going into the Merchant Marines and later serving in the U.S. Marines for two years. He farmed for several years north of Harwood before going into the trucking business for 35 years. He had also been a cattleman most of his life before his retirement due to ill health.

Survivors in addition to his wife, Bonnie, of the home, include three sons, Greg Short, Lane Short, and Keith Short, all of Nevada; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 6, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada. Interment will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Walker. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family receives friends 7-8 p.m., today, April 5, at the funeral home.
