Coming off three consecutive one-run losses, the Nevada Tiger baseball team decided not to tempt fate a fourth time as they pounded Butler Thursday, 16-6.

The game started out looking like it would come down to the wire as after three innings of play the score was tied at three.

In the fourth Nevada started getting the bats going, as they scored four runs to take control.

The visiting Tigers added three more in the fifth and six runs in the sixth to invoke the 10-run rule with a 16-6 lead after six innings of play.

"It was a great job by our kids," Nevada coach Jared Brown said. "It was a good game for us."

Freshman Jerrod Alexander earned the victory on the mound for Nevada, pitching five innings and giving up six runs, only three of them earned.

Alexander allowed four hits, struck out four batters and walked five.

Jordan Kerbs pitched the sixth inning, retiring the side on three pitches. After allowing a hit on the first pitch of the inning, Kerbs got some defensive help with a double play on the very next pitch and retired the final batter also on one toss.

Nevada pounded out 12 hits in the game, nine singles and three doubles.

The Tigers also ran rampant on the base paths, stealing 12 bases against Butler.

David Hawks led the Tigers at the dish, collecting three hits and four RBIs in five at bats.

Keith Overton, Kevin Post and Chris Eador each had two hits for Nevada.

"We had a lot go our way and we were able to capitalize on it," Brown said.

Nevada will be on the road again Tuesday as they play the second in a four-game road swing at Clinton.

The Tigers follow the Clinton game with two road Southwest Conference battles at Webb City Thursday and Neosho April 22.

The win improved Nevada's record to 3-9 this season.
