"This is our grand opening. We started building only about six weeks ago." said Karen Hines, co-owner of Timber Run Motocross track, surveying the facility one last time before the first green flag.

The track kicked off its 2005 Spring Racing Series on Saturday, April 16. Nestled in the hills near Sheldon, Timber Run MX has classes for all ages including ATV's and dirtbikes alike.

In a press release, track owner Ken Hines also stated that Timber Run MX has been designed with families in mind as well as the serious racer.

The mile-long track through natural terrain features 18 jumps, a "whoop" section, a double, a triple, one four-jump "rhythm" section along with two 75-foot tabletops.

"I like the jump right after the last tabletop." said 11-year-old Hunter Harper, who races in one of the youth motorcycle classes. Harper's younger brother, 9-year-old Haden, also raced at Timber Run on Saturday. Hunter finished fourth overall in his class and Haden finished second.

About 45 racers showed up for the first race.

"I think Saturday went really well for the first day. Obviously there are things that we need to work on and hopefully by the next race that will all be fixed." Hines said.

Timber Run MX will hold races every other Saturday. Admission for spectators is $7 at the gate. Gates open at 9 a.m. with practice starting at 10 a.m. and races starting at noon. Concessions are available. Spectators need to bring lawn chairs for themselves and their family members.

Races can be expected to last several hours.
