New equipment to enhance golf course

Improvements at the Frank E. Peters Municipal Golf Course are on the way to make golfing there a more convenient and relaxing experience.
Bench Craft Company recently entered an agreement to provide benches and golf ball washers for the course -- at no cost to the city.
"The golfers will have a new golf ball washer at almost every hole and the added benches will really help the people who walk because they don't have a cart to rest in." Dan Davis, manager of the golf course, said.
The benches will not cost the city anything because the company will sell advertisements on the benches to cover the cost, Davis said.
"Advertising will be sold to anyone in the community that would like to place their name on a bench and the same with the golf ball washers and they will be placed throughout the course. It's similar to what's been done with the tee signs." Nevada Parks and Recreation Director, Carol Branham said.
The company also will provide the golf ball washing equipment, to be paid for with sponsored advertisements on the equipment as well.
The cooperative agreement to place the equipment in exchange for placing advertising on it is apparently becoming a common practice.
"We get calls (from vendors with similar offers) periodically and when they called and gave an offer, we found out that they provided the golf ball washers too and we were interested." Davis said.
Another project in the works for the golf course is the use of native plants for landscaping. The Prairie Foundation agreed to provide a grant to cover the cost of prairie grass seeds and plantings on the course.
