M.W.A. log rolling competition held in Nevada

The "man with the ax" held the right of way in Nevada today for the very reason that Nevada's big camp of Modern Woodmen of America was host to all the Woodmen in the county and there being so many of these foresters that no one else had any room in the right of way and everybody was exceedingly glad to take siding for the guests.

The Vernon County log rolling is a special event on the Woodmen calendar and is always looked forward to with great pleasure for no event is more enjoyable to the forester. It is not only an occasion that brings pleasure but it also strengthens the fraternal tie. The members meeting here become better acquainted and more enthusiastic in all that makes the order stronger and its membership larger.

Gasoline causes infant's death

Floyd Jr., 11-month-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Thomas, of near Rockville, died at the Community Hospital in this city about midnight Thursday night, the result of drinking gasoline, says the Butler Democrat. It is understood that the Thomas family was visiting at the home of C. Daniels, near Spruce, and the infant, while at play, picked up a container containing gasoline and drank some of the fluid. The infant was brought to the local hospital for treatment, but the efforts of attending physicians proved of no avail.

Concert group 'still digging' for members

"Still digging" was the word from headquarters of the membership campaign for the Nevada Community Concert Association today.

The one-week drive ends Saturday afternoon and by then, said W. Don Kennedy, chairman of the membership campaign, "we're going to have to secure the support of every person who wants to see the Association continued as a part of Nevada's cultural life."

Although an effort has been made to contact personally everyone in the community, Mr. Kennedy said that it is possible some folks have been missed. "I urge them to visit our campaign headquarters at the Farm and Home building or telephone number 441 so that they can be enrolled as members for the 1955-'56 season."
