Velma Bell Hiestand Steward

Velma Bell Hiestand Steward, 92, of El Dorado Springs, died in the Cedar County Memorial Hospital on Thursday, May 5, 2005, after a short illness.

She was born near the Olive Branch Community in Vernon County on Oct. 29, 1912, the daughter of George H. and Bessie V. Hiestand. She married Ernest E. Steward on March 18, 1931.

She was saved at Glade Springs Missionary Baptist Church in 1947 and remained a member there until death. She and her husband were lifelong farmers in Vernon and Cedar counties.

She is survived be her three children, Ernest Eldon Steward, Lois Steward Arnold and Dwain Steward; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Virgil Hiestand and Clifford Hiestand; a granddaughter; and a great-grandson.

Services were held on Sunday, May 8, at the Hackleman Funeral Home with Norman Highley and Dean Kenney officiating. Music was provided by Faith Trussell. Interment was in the El Dorado Springs City Cemetery under the direction of Hackleman Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Clayton Arnold, Tim Moore, David Arnold, Adam Arnold, Blake Gazaway and Mitch Moore. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cedar County Memorial Hospital.
