Nevada Middle School concludes track season

Nevada Middle School finished its track season with the Tri-County Conference meet on May 3 at Testman Field.

Out of seven teams competing, Nevada's seventh-grade boys finished second, the seventh-grade girls placed fourth, the eighth-grade girls placed fourth and the eighth-grade boys placed fifth.

The seventh-grade boys won four events. Lawrence Shouse won the discus with a throw of 114 feet, Tyler Quick won the 100 hurdles with a time of 17.9 seconds and both the 400 and 800 meter relay teams won. The team of Brandon Munsterman, Mark Weatherly, Tyler Quick and Austin Baldwin comprised both winning relays, winning with 51.8 seconds in the 400 meters and 1:49.97 in the 800.

Other high placings include Baldwin getting second in the long jump and fourth in the 100.

Weatherly was third in the triple jump. Kyle Schulze was third in the discus. Quick was fourth in the triple jump. Munsterman was fourth in the 200. Todd Brier was fifth in the 1600 and Ethan Beisner placed fifth in the discus.

As a team the seventh-grade boys scored 100 points, 26 behind Webb City.

The seventh-grade girls placed first in one event, the 800 relay. Melanie Messick, Daven Smith, Taylor Beckett and Kristen Kitsmiller were the four members of the winning relay team. Their time was 2:02.48.

Messick, Beckett, Kitsmiller and Emily Watts also teamed up to place third in the 400 relay.

Placing fourth were Kitsmiller in the 100, Messick in the 200 and Smith in the 400. Watts was fifth in the 200 and 800, Beckett was fifth in the 75 hurdles and Blaik Holland was fifth in the discus. Smith also placed sixth in the 800.

The seventh-grade girls finished with 57 points, while Carthage won the meet with 175.

The top placing for the eighth-grade girls was second in the 800 relay and 100-meter dash. Jordan Bell, LeeAnn Stone, Bethany Balk and Taylor Means were on the 800 relay team.

Means was the athlete who finished second in the 100, only .05 seconds behind the winner.

Heidi Wilson placed third in both the discus and shot put. Felicia Chadd was fourth in the shot put.

Also placing fourth were both the 1600 and 400 relay teams. Balk Stone, Bell and Shawna Alkire were on the 400 team, while Kori Lowery, Jessica Harper and Stone were on the 1600 team.

Chelsie Johnson was fifth in the high jump and triple jump. Balk was fifth in the long jump and Stone was fifth in the 400. Bell placed sixth in the long jump.

The eighth-grade girls finished with 49 points, while Neosho scored 142 to win.

Colby Shepherd won both the long jump and 100 for the eighth-grade boys. Shepherd leapt 18-8 3/4 in the long jump and easily won the 100 in 11.91 seconds. Shepherd also was second in the 200.

Cameron Cartwright was second in the high jump and fifth in the triple jump.

The relay team of Shepherd, Cartwright, Trevor Foreman and Kyle Armstrong was fourth in the 400 relay. Cole Ogle joined Cartwright, Foreman and Armstrong to place fifth in the 800 relay.

The eighth-grade boys scored 44 points, while Carthage won the meet with 99.

Other results recently submitted include individual girls seventh and eighth-grade results from Joplin on April 26.

In the seventh-grade meet, Daven Smith won the long jump and was sixth in the 400. Emily Watts was third in the 200. Taylor Beckett was fourth in the 75 hurdles. Kristen Kitsmiller was sixth in the 100. Melanie Messick was sixth in the 200. The relay team of Messick, Beckett, Smith and Kitsmiller won the 800. The team of Messick, Beckett, Watts and Kitsmiller was fourth in the 400.

In the eighth-grade meet at Joplin, Chelsie Johnson was fourth in both the high jump and triple jump. Jordan Bell was fourth in the long jump. Felicia Chadd was fourth in the shot put. The 800 relay team of Bell, LeeAnn Stone, Bethany Balk and Taylor Means was second. The team of Balk, Stone, Bell and Shawna Alkire was sixth in the 400 relay.
