Co-op should be run by members

Dear editor:

It is very apparent that the current board of directors of the Sac Osage Electric Co-op do not want the membership to have a say in how the co-op is run.

I always thought it was owned by the members.

We have been members for 50 years and have seen the bylaws changed to make it easier for board members to be re-elected year after year after year by only being allowed to vote for a director from the sub-district where you live.

It wasn't always that way.

It also seems the current board wants to run a co-op like a corporation with all the benefits, if we let this amendment No. 7 pass, it will take more than 160 members on a petition with 2 percent coming from each of the nine subdistricts, to get an amendment on the ballot, while the board members can do as they please.

We elect these board members to represent the membership of the co-op and they sell us out with an 18 percent increase in our cost of electricity and a $2.4 million building.

A concerned member,

Bub Hutchison
