Opal Covey

Opal Covey, the daughter of Robert A. and Minnie O. (Barger) Simmons, was born Aug. 9, 1915, in Boone County, Ark., and passed away on Saturday, June 4, 2005, at Moore-Few Care Center at 89 years of age.

Mrs. Covey was united in marriage to John I. Covey on Nov. 19, 1939, in Nevada, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 23, 1999. She was a homemaker and a long-time resident of Nevada. She was a member of First Christian Church of Nevada.

Survivors include two sons, John Covey, of Nevada, Robert Covey, of the state of New Hampshire; one daughter, Cheryl Tedder, of Iola, Kan.; two sisters, Faye Covey, of Fort Scott, Kan., and Mildred Cartwright, of Plainview, Texas; three sisters-in-law, Betty Simmons, of Muskogee, Okla., Helen Simmons, of Pittsburg, Kan., and Laura Sullivan of Independence, Kan.; six grandsons, Robin, Paul and Teddy Covey, of the state of New Hampshire, Jarrod Tedder, of Iola, Kan., and David and Clinton Covey of Nevada; two great-grandsons; two step great-grandsons; and one step great-granddaughter. She was also preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Dennis Simmons and Woodrow Simmons.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., on Wednesday, June 8, at Evergreen Memorial Chapel with pastor Bill Platt officiating. Burial will follow in Newton Burial Park.
