Chief retires with many fond memories

Dear editor:

Today upon his retirement as fire chief, my husband, concluded 28 years of service to this community. My children and I would like to take this opportunity to publicly say "Job well done."

His devotion to service has truly been an inspiration. It is with a sigh of relief yet a heavy heart that he leaves his post -- relief to have the weight of responsibility lifted from his shoulders. Yet it is with sadness he bids good-bye to his "family" at the fire station. Firemen are truly a brotherhood. And Nevada is protected by the best of the breed.

Contrary to popular belief firefighters do much more than eat doughnuts and play checkers. Nevada has a well trained, professional group of men who take great pride in what they do. Each day, 24 hours a day, our homes, businesses, even our very lives are protected by this band of brothers. Sure they have their differences but they know when to put those things aside. After all the guy you yelled at this morning maybe the guy who saves your behind tonight. So they move on and do what they are trained to do.

How do you say thank you to those who dare to tread where the devil dances?

But inadequate as it is I say thank you.

Thank you for making my husband's 12 year reign as chief worth every minute. Band together guys. You have been taught by the best. Make him proud.

To this community I say take notice and give these "heroes" the respect they deserve.

Cheryl Gillette and family,

Nevada
