The Nevada Lady Tigers lost a close match in Carthage Tuesday, as they opened Southwest Conference volleyball play with a 20-25, 25-20, 26-24 defeat.

After taking the first game and losing the second, Nevada was unable to overcome Carthage, as they needed extra points to take the third game by two.

"It was a heartbreaker," Nevada head coach Trudy Fleeman said. "It was hard because we fought really hard."

Amanda Wilson led Nevada (1-2 overall, 0-1 in the Southwest Conference) with 9 kills, while Brittany Crockett added 8 kills, to go along with 3 blocks.

Ashleigh Bryson led the team with 16 assists.

Fleeman said it was a matter of Nevada not being experienced in decision making. She said the Lady Tigers were still struggling with when to try a tip, and when to try different actions offensively.

"We need to work on better decisions," Fleeman said. "Like when it's the right time to do certain things."

Fleeman said the whole idea is to keep moving forward.

"We lost playing hard and we made some bad decisions. Those are things we can learn from," she said.

Nevada won the JV match 25-19, 25-27 and 25-23.

The Nevada freshman lost 26-24, 15-25 and 25-17.

Nevada will be in Diamond Thursday for a non-conference match.
