Fort Scott, Kan. -- Students of Fort Scott Christian Heights made their school proud at the recent Missouri Southern State University English Competition.

Kristi Beltram, Adrienne Bahr, and Alyssa Vanwart placed at the competition. Beltram placed third in spelling dictation for 11th and 12th grades, and Vanwart also competed in the 11th and 12th grade category and placed second in scramlets.

"It is like a vocab thing, what words belong here and what words don't. Synonyms and things like that," Vanwart said.

Bahr placed third in spelling dictation for ninth and 10th grades.

Twelve FSCH students participated in the event last Friday.

Other competitions included reading comprehension and grammar machines.

Twelve schools competed from Missouri and Kansas areas.

There are public and private schools that compete, Beltram said. Schools compete and are rated on different scales per number of students in the school. FSCH rated under the less than 400 students scale.
