UNIONTOWN, Kan. -- Pittsburg Colgan's girls didn't take a lot of shots but made most of what they took as the Panthers defeated homestanding Uniontown, 56-46, here Friday night.

Colgan made 20 of 41 shots from the field. Take out an oh-for-five night from the three-point line and you have a 56-percent shooting night on two-point goals. Colgan was also 16 of 31 at the free-throw line.

Uniontown, meanwhile, was just 17 of 65 from the field (26 percent) and 10 of 22 from the charity stripe.

Colgan led 11-5 after one period. The Eagles (1-5) closed to within 38-36 by the end of the third quarter only to see the Panthers pull away in the fourth.

"I was really pleased with the effort tonight," Uniontown head coach Ken Holt said. "We just have to get over the hump."

Kaity Smith led the Eagles with 12 points while Cassie Fox added 10. Peggy Flood made eight of 10 shots from the field on her way to a 20-point night for the Panthers. Aubrey Jones chipped in with 17 points for Colgan.

Carissa Fink grabbed 10 rebounds for Uniontown. Brandi Robertson had six steals and Kylie Shepard dished seven assists.

The Eagles won't play again until Jan. 6 when they go to Erie.
