Rice has trouble with knee again

Nevada sophomore post Lindsay Rice had a setback recently on her recovering knee, 12 months after suffering the initial injury.

Rice, who had surgery last January to repair a torn ACL and MCL, worked her way back into shape for this basketball season. She has been starting all year for Nevada, and is the third-leading scorer on the team.

This week in practice the knee gave out, knocking the 6-0 Rice off the court again.

Rice had the knee examined Friday, and is scheduled to see a doctor again Wednesday after swelling subsides.

While the initial prognosis was that the doctors didn't think the ACL was torn again, they won't know for sure until another exam takes place.

"She's been having some trouble with the knee all season," Lady Tigers head coach Brent Bartlett said. "It's been on and off."

The Lady Tigers lost junior Afton Baldwin for the season with a torn ACL two weeks ago. She was Nevada's leading scorer.

"That leaves us awful thin," Bartlett said.

Nevada will be hosting the Lady Tiger Classic this week at Wynn Gymnasium. They open with El Dorado Springs Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Needless to say Rice will not be able to participate in Tuesday's game. She was unable to walk on her injured knee as of Friday.
