Nevada wrestlers take three at tournament

Eight wrestlers finished with winning records as the Nevada Tigers went 3-2 in duals at the North/South Duals Tournament in Warrensburg Saturday.

Cole Bond, Keith Overton and Ryan Herda each went unbeaten in five matches during the tournament for Nevada, while Spenser Daniels and Jerrod Alexander finished with 4-1 records.

The Tigers defeated Harrisonville 42-38 in the first match, getting pins from Nick Nelson, Josh Palmer, Bond, Overton, Daniels, Herda and Alexander in the close victory.

In their second match, Nevada took on Warrensburg and were edged 40-36. Bond, and Herda each won by pin in the loss.

Nevada whipped Kansas City Center in their third match, getting a 69-10 win. Nevada only lost two matches in the entire dual, and got pins from Mason Heard, Colby Shepherd, Ethan Fast, Nelson, Palmer, Bond, Overton, Daniels and Herda.

The Tigers faced Smith-Cotton in their fourth match, again winning handily, 59-19.

Drew Shepherd, Heard, Herda and Overton each won by pin in the team victory.

The final dual of the day pitted Nevada against Kearney. Kearney got five pins, while Nevada had only three in a 45-27 Kearney win.

Colby Shepherd, Bond and Overton each earned pins against Kearney foes.

Trey Miller, Nelson and Heard all finished with winning records in the dual tournament, joining Bond, Overton, Herda, Daniels and Alexander.

The tournament Saturday was the final regular season action for Nevada's grapplers before they travel to Monett, Feb. 10-11, for the district tournament.

The top four wrestlers in each weight class at the district tournament will advance to the state tournament in Columbia, Feb. 16-18.
