Uniontown's Jesse Johnston is hammered by several Marmaton Valley defenders during the Eagles' Homecoming game at Uniontown, Kan., Friday night. The rival Wildcats took a 65-44 win over the Eagles in a non-league contest. The Eagles dropped to 6-9 this season with the loss.

UNIONTOWN, Kan. -- Uniontown's basketball teams were swept on their Homecoming night by Marmaton Valley here Friday night. Eagle girls lost to the Wildcats, 59-42, as 6-3 senior center Ashley Lord scored 36 points for the visitors. Marmaton Valley's boys took the nightcap, 65-44.

Because it was the second meeting of the season between the schools, neither game counted in Three Rivers League standings.

Lord made 12 of 15 shots from the field and hit 12 of 14 free throws for Marmaton Valley (12-2). Most of those points came when Uniontown's six-footer, Brandi Robertson, found herself in foul trouble and the Eagles (8-7) didn't have anyone else to match up with her.

"We did a nice job on Ashley early," Uniontown head coach Ken Holt said. "Brandi got two quick fouls and we just couldn't match up with her size. The game was called in a way that suited their style more than it did ours."

The Eagles led 11-10 after one period of play but trailed 28-18 at the half as Robertson had to be careful with her fouls.

Kylie Shepard led Uniontown with 17 points while Kaity Smith added 10.

The Eagles were outrebounded, 24-14, according to their statistics.

Uniontown's boys (6-9) were unable to hit their shots while Marmaton Valley (12-3) hit a staggering number.

"They shot the ball really, really well," Uniontown head coach Gary Jones said. "I don't have the stats right here in front of me but I'd believe they shot 60 percent."

Gage McKinnis was the only Eagle to reach double figures in scoring as he put in 10 points.

The Wildcats led 19-13 after one quarter and 39-28 at the half.

In junior varsity play, Uniontown's girls took a 21-17 win as Jayme Shank scored 13 points while the boys prevailed 35-32 with Garrett Erickson scoring nine points.

All Uniontown teams host Jayhawk-Linn Tuesday night. This will be the second meeting of the season between the schools meaning that these games will not be counted in the TRL, either.
