Margaret A. Cross

Margaret A. Cross, 64, Sheldon, Mo., died Saturday, Feb. 18, 2006, at St. John's hospital, Joplin, Mo., following a short illness. She was born Oct. 21, 1941, in Nevada, Mo., to Orville Lynwood Shannon and Vivian Cooper Shannon. She was married to Quincy R. Cross on Sept. 23,1962, in Springfield, Mo.

Margaret was born in rural Nevada. She attended Richard's school and graduated from Hume High School in 1959 as valedictorian. She went to Southern Missouri State University in Springfield, and became a school teacher and taught for several years. She worked at Nevada City Hospital as an aid. She later became a registered nurse and continued working for 16 years. She also worked for various home health agencies for several years until her retirement due to her poor health. She and Quincy lived at their home in rural Sheldon, near Bellamy for the past 41 years.

Survivors include her husband Quincy, of the home; two sons, Ray Lynn Cross, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Matthew Cross and Hollee, of rural Sheldon; two grandchildren, Wyatt Cross and Rachel Cross; one sister, Beverly Freitag; and a niece, Elizabeth, of rural Stockton; an aunt, Thelma Meritt, Nevada, and several cousins.

Services were held at 2 p.m., on Tuesday, Feb. 21, at the Sheldon Christian Church, Sheldon, with pastor Andrew Kirschner officiating. Interment followed at Olive Branch Cemetery, Milo.

Memorials may be given to Sheldon Christian Church.
